DOMESTIC UPDATE: Project Energy Independence

I had mentioned some months ago that I had decided to become personally energy independent. I showed pictures of the 5 KW solar panels we had installed behind the house. I am happy to say that the solar panels are working beyond our expectations. We use about 30 KWH/day of electricity, and the Solar Panels are producing about 33 KWH/day of electricity. To help increase our production margin, and to help keep producing on cloudy days, we have now had a 3.5 KW Raum wind turbine installed. Our house is on a hill, and we get a nice breeze pretty much all the time. The wind turbine is working very well. It does not produce as much as the solar panels, but it is nice in that it pretty much produces around the clock.

Ideally, we would like to move to electric cars at this point, but it does not appear that a viable electric car is even on the horizon. So, the next best thing is that we would like to get the Honda Natural Gas Civic. These are neat vehicles in that they come with a compressor that allows you to fill them up from your home Natural Gas line. These have been advertised for some years now, but I have had great difficulty actually finding one for sale. I am hoping next summer to be able to invest some time and hopefully find one.
